South Dakota Soybean Stories: Kevin Deinert
As the President of the South Dakota Soybean Association board, Kevin Deinert has a deep passion for advocating for agriculture policy that ensures a healthy, safe, sustainable supply of food for the next generation. And with two sons of his own under four years old, he knows just how important it is to act as a steward of the resources he’s been given to ensure that he can pass that along for generations to come.
Kevin’s family farm involves his father and his brother all working together, bringing different skills to the table to run their crop and livestock operation. Kevin’s strengths lie in the livestock sector. His life-long passion for animal husbandry led him to study animal science at South Dakota State University and ultimately return to the farm to lend his expertise to the family’s cow/calf and feedlot operations.
Caring for his animals is of the utmost importance to Kevin, and it shows in the way that he interacts with the cattle he tends to on a daily basis. We visited Kevin in the heart of calving season to learn more about how animal husbandry impacts the livestock industry and what that means to him.
