Monica’s Red Cake

Todd and Monica Hanten

The holidays are upon us and that means all the holiday dinners. Holiday meals are some of the best and we will always love a delicious Christmas ham or prime rib dinner to celebrate. However, the main course isn’t always the best part, it’s the added sweets. We don’t know about you, but we’re here for all of the different dessert options! This delicious ruby red cake from Monica Hanten’s family is the perfect addition to any holiday spread.

This sweet, festive treat comes from Todd and Monica Hanten, who keep busy farming soybeans, corn, wheat, and alfalfa near Goodwin, S.D. The Hantens both grew up on farms and developed strong ties to the land. Todd often gushes about Monica’s cooking, saying, “I’m pretty sure that’s why my employees continue to work here. They enjoy Monica’s cooking”. Todd and Monica’s cooking doesn’t slow down during the holidays and a lot of their time together is spent in the kitchen. This holiday season, the Hantens shared their family’s red cake recipe. It is the perfect, tasty dessert to serve your guests after your holiday meal. Monica’s red cake batter cooks into a fluffy and festive treat everyone will enjoy.
