Monica's Red Cake

Ingredients
  

Cake

  • 1/2 Cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa
  • 2 Oz Red Food Coloring
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/5 Cups Flour
  • 1 1/2 Tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar

Frosting

  • 2 1/2 Tbsp Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 1/2 Tsp Vnilla Extract
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar

Instructions
 

Cake Batter

  • 1. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. 2. Combine cocoa and food coloring, then add into the mixture. 3. Add salt, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and flour. 4. Add vinegar and baking soda. Fold into batter, do not beat. Bake for 40-45 minutes at 350.

Frosting

  • 1. Combine flour and milk, stir over low heat until thick, then cool. 2. Cream the butter vanilla extract and sugar together and then add to the cold mixture. 3. Beat until light and fluffy.
