Thank Your Farmers on National Farmer's Day!

Today, on October 12, we have a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on some unspoken heroes – South Dakota farmers. These dedicated individuals work tirelessly day in and day out, nurturing the land, tending to crops, and caring for livestock to provide us with the food that sustains our lives. They are the backbone of our agricultural system, and their contributions are immeasurable.

In South Dakota, we are so lucky to have agriculture as our number one industry. You do not have to drive far to see a planter rolling in the springtime or a combine harvesting in the middle of fall. South Dakota’s farming legacy runs deep with generations of family farms.

There are lots of ways to show your appreciation to farmers throughout the year. Some examples of how to show your gratitude can be by educating others on the importance of farming, participating in farm visits or tours, promoting agriculture education, and volunteering during busy seasons such as harvest and planting time.

Since right now is harvest season, a great way to show your appreciation is by bringing out meals to farmers. Most of these farmers are in the fields from dusk to dawn and rarely have time to catch a good meal.

Even though National Farmer’s Day is technically only one day out of the year, we encourage you to continue to appreciate farmers every day. By showing appreciation, you not only recognize their hard work but also contribute to the preservation of agriculture and the vitality of local communities.

Thank you, farmers!
